Nicole Richie slams anorexia rumors: Denies she weighs 88 lbs after extreme diet

Nicole Richie is fuming over a tabloid report that she's suffering from anorexia, and slammed those rumors as "completely false."

"These rumors are completely false," a source close to Richie told E! Jan. 9.

Nicole's camp said the mom of two is healthy and well, and denied that her weight has dropped to a mere 88 pounds.

The controversy erupted earlier this week after "Star" magazine reported that Richie has relapsed into anorexia and is subsisting on a 600-to-800-calorie-a-day diet consisting of celery, sunflower seeds, juice and chewing gum.

The tabloid also claimed that Nicole's "eight-month struggle" with anorexia has been causing problems in her marriage to rocker Joel Madden.

Meanwhile, Richie has said she stays in shape by following a sensible, healthy diet (which includes juicing) and by doing rigorous cardio dance workouts four days a week with celebrity trainer Tracy Anderson.

This isn't the first time the former reality TV star has denied anorexia rumors. In 2006, the 5-foot-1 Richie — who had been pudgy in her early twenties — abruptly slimmed down to a reported 87 pounds. Her then-emaciated body and sunken collarbones fueled rumors of an eating disorder.

But Nicole always maintained that her dramatic weight loss was due to stress and not because she was anorexic. In 2006, Richie said on the Tyra Banks Show that she did not have an eating disorder. "I am not anorexic," she said. "I am not bulimic. I do not have an eating disorder."

Later that year, Nicole worked with a nutritionist, psychiatrist and a personal trainer to help her deal with her weight issues. At the time, her medical team characterized Richie's weight as "in the realm of anorexia," but didn't comment any further.
