Word has it per fashion industry insiders that designer Nicolas Ghesquière could very possibly be the next Creative Director of Louis Vuitton, replacing Marc Jacobs after his last collection viewing on October 2, 2013 at Paris Fashion Week S/S 2014.
Fashionista has announced that according to a Singapore-based men’s magazine Men’s Folio, Nicolas Ghesquière is a front-runner to be Jacobs’ replacement at Louis Vuitton.
Ghesquière had been the Artistic Director at Balenciaga for the past fifteen years, joining them when he was barely 25, but left his post rather abruptly last November.
However, Louis Vuitton has stated that they “cannot comment at this stage about a possible successor.” Apparently the deal has not been sealed yet for Ghesquière to come on board…
Reportedly, per WWD, Ghesquière is being sued by Balenciaga’s owner Kering, for breach of confidentiality after he had accused them of “sucking him dry.”
Marc Jacobs, his designing partner Robert Duffy and LVMH chairman Bernard Arnault, officially announced (and confirmed rumors) after his October 2 runway show that Jacobs was indeed leaving Louis Vuitton to focus on developing his own eponymous brand for an initial public offering.
The 50-year-old designer leaves the French fashion house with a bang as Jacobs dedicated his Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2014 collection “To the showgirl in all of us,” which he presented in a burlesque style atmosphere complete with stylized props of carousels, fountains, elevators, escalators and hotel corridors that he had previously created for Louis Vuitton's seasonal grand displays.
As for Nicolas Ghesquière, he’s no stranger to the limelight either. Over the past few years he’s been seen at various red carpet events posing for photo-ops next to actresses Kristen Stewart, Jennifer Connelly, Chloe Sevigny and actress/musician Charlotte Gainsbourg. Apparently, they have worked with him on various projects and worn his Balenciaga creations.
Will Nicolas Ghesquière succeed Marc Jacobs at Vuitton? Stay tuned for any developments…
