Nicki Minaj enjoyed vocal performances from hopefuls, including Teena Torres, but she did not like some of their hair choices on "American Idol" Wednesday.
After watching Teena Torres perform a rendition of "Soulmate" by Natasha Bedingfield, Minaj slammed her for hair that made her look much older than she is.
"Why do you look so sad? It's funny because you reminded me of why I fell in love with your voice before. You have control over the song, I felt throughout the whole song. Something about your tone reminds me of the 1980s R&B singers," Minaj shared before getting to her hair. "The only thing I say Teena is lose the hair. Cut it all off and go bald. The hair that you had originally, it made you look a little younger. This hair that you have is aging you."
Laughing at Nicki Minaj, Randy Jackson focused on Teena Torres' vocals.
"Okay Nicki was just kidding. She doesn't want you to cut it all off," Jackson laughed. "To me this is the start of the night. This is how you do it. It was controlled. It was at least 90 percent perfect. The thing that I loved is that you connected emotionally to the song. I loved it."
Mariah Carey agreed.
"You know I love you so I don't want to be redundant, but I do want to say this was all you. You gave every bit of emotion. You really went in," said Carey.
With hair and vocal critiques completed, Teena Torres earned a pass to the next round of the competition.
Do you think Nicki Minaj was right about the hair or should she have stuck to her vocal performance only?
"American Idol" returns Thursday night at 8 p.m. on FOX.
