Nicki Minaj is easily the most unpredictable judge on ‘American Idol’ this season. Between her and Mariah Carrey’s on-camera feud, her out-there attire, and her bizarre comments to the contestants, Minaj is quite the colorful character, both literally and metaphorically. Every night the show airs, she brings some sort of surprise. On Wednesday, March 13, she just happened to arrive late for her judging duties.
Ryan Seacrest tried his hardest to make an awkward situation appear less awkward by saying, “We are coming to you live and on time.” Seacrest then turned his attention to the top 10 contestants, and had the audience cheer for their favorites. He then announced that only three of the four judges were there.
While Urban, Jackson, and Carey were ready to go, Minaj was instead caught in traffic.
“I hear she’s seven minutes out and there’s some congestion on the 405. She should be here momentarily,” assured Seacrest.
After Finch’s performance and a commercial break, Minaj arrived almost 15 minutes late for her televised gig.
She appeared in a black hood and dark sunglasses. It was difficult to know if she was covering herself up because she wasn’t camera ready, or if that was just her chosen look for the night. However, a makeup artist did come over to her. The glasses eventually came off, but the hood remained on.
Minaj was able to watch Janelle Arthur perform, and gave her feedback. She never did mention the fact that she arrived late.
