American Idol judge Nicki Minaj sparks a feud with eliminated Idol contestant, Delvin Velez. Velez was eliminated last Thursday night after unsuccessfully persuading the audience and judges to save him from being eliminated from the show. According to E! News, after the show, Velez expressed his feelings during an interview backstage. Velez stated, “She (Nicki Minaj) has a lot of girl power and a lot of girl thoughts. Maybe she just wants a girl to win. The girls have been so consistent with their songs, and the girls are amazing this year so I have nothing bad to say about any of the contestants.”
After Velez made the comments, apparently Minaj received criticism via Twitter for her decision not to save Velez. Of course, Minaj being a very outspoken judge on the show fired back at the comments the eliminated contestant made. Minaj stated “"Lol. Be mad @ AMERICA when u get sent home. The JUDGES are the ones who FOUGHT for America to get the opp to VOTE 4 U!!! #memba? "America r the potential fans...u MUST win them over. 'Saves' are bulls--t and they know it. Those girls are just too good this year."
Minaj continues her rant and says "Send the judges some flowers and a card. If Curtis didn't get SAVED, NONE of u get saved! Best male voice of the SEASON!!!!!!!!!!! #TruthTea, trust me BEW BEW. If EYE didn't want u in that TOP, YOU wldnt have been in that TOP. Fought for ALL of you, so just simply b gracious.” I guess feeling the need to give the Idol contestants some advice, she stated, “Jennifer Hudson didn't win!!!! Oscar winner!!! #memba??? ok. Take that exposure and let your light shine."
If you have been following the show, when Idol contestant Curtis Finch, Jr., age 24 of St. Louis, MO was eliminated on March 14, Minaj voiced her outrage and feelings regarding the elimination of Finch. During the live show, Minaj voiced her opinion at America by stating, “America you got this one wrong.” She also stated to the Idol contestant, “Curtis if you are eliminated and leave the show, I’m leaving as well.” Of course it was all talk because the American Idol judge was certainly back at the judging table the next week. This is her reason for the comment in the Twitter rant “If Curtis didn’t get SAVED, NONE of u get saved!”
Do you feel that comment was right or professional on Minaj’s part? Although the Idol judge may have felt very strongly about Curtis early elimination, both her comments during the live show and during her recent Twitter rant should have probably been left unsaid. Although she seems to be doing great as an American Idol judge, how do you think the other judges and producers of the show feel about the comments, because it seems now, she’s holding back on saving other contestants because of the elimination of Curtis Finch, Jr., tell me; what do you think?
The eliminated Idol contestant Velez, seemingly somewhat embarrassed by the comments responded to Minaj’s comments through his blog page stating, “That moment when an adult stoops down to the 3rd grade level….LOL grow up Hun, I’ve got songs to write. #movingforward.” He later deleted the comment from his blog, but the comment was already seen, but it seems the eliminated Idol contestant was trying to fire back, but is also trying to move on from the feud.
What do you think, do you feel American Idol judge Nicki Minaj was right or did she respond unprofessionally as a judge?
