Nicki Minaj shines with 'Freedom' on 'Ellen'

Nicki Minaj surprised her fans with a special performance and interview on "Ellen" Tuesday. Taking the stage, Minaj performed the hit single "Freedom."

Minaj's performance followed a very revealing interview, in which the "American Idol" judge and rapper discussed "being crazy" and fearing upcoming live airings of the reality singing competition.

"I overcompensated by being crazier. That didn't work," Minaj admitted when discussing her fight with Mariah Carey on "Ellen." "If you know someone maybe doesn't like you, now you're going to really go in. It's like a defense mechanism. You compensate with being crazy."

While Minaj has moved past her issues with Mariah Carey, she is quite worried about controlling herself when appearing on live versions of "American Idol" later this Spring.

"I'm not looking forward to live shows. I cannot trust myself. Like, if there's a comment being made," Minaj told "Ellen". "I just want it to go well. I don't want anyone to say something crazy because I don't want to look like a crazy again. I'm not a crazy psycho you guys."
