Nicki Minaj says ‘American Idol’ feud is the real deal (video)

The jury is still out on whether the feud between “American Idol” judges Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey is staged or not, but the outspoken rapper is giving the inside scoop on the subject.

On Jan. 14 episode of “The Tonight Show” with Jay leno, Minaj revealed: “It definitely isn’t a fake feud. You’ve got to see it to get it. We’re both passionate, and both crazy, and we’re both, you know… and then sometimes it just goes ‘rawrr!’” You can check out the interview here.

Minaj also pointed out that Leno should understand, what with his history of his celeb feuds and all.

“I mean, you’ve been in a feud before, with a guy,” she said, leaving viewers to wonder which of the late night host’s many “feuds” she was referring to. (Letterman? Conan?)

As the more seasoned feuder, Leno told her: “I just ignore it. Let the other people feud. You’re a musician, you do what you do. We just do our show. I don’t say bad things about anybody. People do what they do.”

According to Us Weekly, at last week’s Television Critics Association panel, Minaj complained, "Every time we try to talk about the contestants, we have to field questions about [this]… Have you ever had an argument with someone you work with?"

In the Philadelphia area, the season 12 premiere of “American idol” kicks off on Wednesday, Jan. 16 at 8:00 PM on FOX 29.
