The internet rumor mill has gone into overdrive with reports that Nicki Minaj will join pop diva Mariah Carey as the newest judge on Fox TV's massively popular singing competition, American Idol.
A source close to Minaj told US Weekly on Monday that the 29-year-old entertainer has been in talks to judge the TV competition and that a deal is being finalized. The source spoke anonymously because they are not authorized to publicly discuss the matter.
The source revealed, “I’m not sure the deal is completely done yet, but yes, she is definitely doing it. A few more slight things to sign off on but it is happening.”
The Fox network said it had no comment, but Fox Entertainment president Kevin Reilly did confirm that Jennifer Lopez will not be returning and that Mariah Carey will be taking her place next season.
"I am so excited to be joining ‘Idol,’" Carey said, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "I can't wait to get started.”
A second source told US Weekly that Nicki is “100% confirmed to judge American Idol. With Mariah and Nicki on the bill, the one seat left to fill has to be a guy that will balance out all of that diva.
Minaj -- born Onika Tanya Maraj -- toured North America with Britney Spears throughout 2011; she will embark on her own world tour beginning October 21 in Nottingham, England. The rapper's latest album, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, debuted at No. 1 in April 2012 and spawned two Top 10 singles, "Starships" and "Pound the Alarm."
