The 2014 BET Awards have come and gone but the controversy has not. During her acceptance speech for Best Female Hip Hop Artist, Nicki Minaj said some controversial things about writing her own rhymes. Many took the speech as a huge blast to fellow female rapper Iggy Azalea. According to a Wednesday report in Hollywood Life, Nicki Minaj has spoke out and says her acceptance speech wasn't about Iggy at all.

So what did Nicki say that had everybody up in arms? “What I want the world to know about Nicki Minaj is, that when you hear Nicki Minaj spit, Nicki Minaj wrote it.” Just one line from Nicki Minaj's acceptance speech at the BET Awards and everyone thinks she's trashing Iggy Azalea.

The reason everyone thought she was talking about Iggy? There has been a lot of talk lately that Iggy doesn't write her own lyrics. Even though she is credited with writing "Fancy," there are three other writers credited. Also, there have been rumors that TI has written lyrics for the chart topper.

Despite the controversy and the words she actually said, Nicki Minaj is claiming that she was not throwing shade at Azalea. She says she simply was talking about how important it is that she write her own music. Minaj tweeted in response to the Iggy Azalea feud that supposedly was happening between the two musicians. She said, “The media puts words in my mouth all the time and this is no different. I will always take a stance on women writing b/c I believe in us!”

Nicki went on with another tweet to point out that her stance is nothing new. “I believe we’re smart enough to write down our own thoughts and perspective, just like the men do. I’ve been saying this for 5 YEARS” Is this even more shade to point out the fact that Azalea wasn't around five years ago? Probably not.

Iggy Azalea made a statement about the supposed diss as well. The "Fancy" rapper was also nominated for Best Female Hip Hop Artist and lost to Nicki Minaj (whose newest release has been all but ignored.) Iggy took to Instagram to call the feud rumors "petty." Azalea denied there was any beef with Nicki Minaj and said that this just wasn't her year to win. No big deal.
