Nick Weschler talks ABC's 'Revenge'

With love triangles, shootings, enemies, and endless scheming, ABC'sRevenge is one of the most captivating shows on television. Currently in its third season, the drama focuses on one young woman’s plan to destroy every person who played a role in the framing and imprisonment of her father (who ultimately died in prison). Emily VanCamp plays Emily Thorne, the daughter who returns to the Hamptons to avenge her father’s life. The major twists and turns on the series occur along Emily’s quest for vengeance; as she finds herself coming across obstacles connecting with her father's past, the allies she brings in to help her; as well as her ability to at times emotionally detach herself from those affected by her plotting.

One of those people her double identity struggles with is her childhood friend, Jack Porter played by Nick Weschler. The quintessential “good guy” on the series, Jack is Emily's childhood friend and the one who leads her to question most what has become of her true identity as she plots her revenge.
For Weschler, playing the morally good guy has taken him down a much different road than he's used to traveling as an actor as he recently told me in our interview. “That's one of the things I enjoy about it [Revenge]; because I never got to play a good guy. I was always like the rapist and the murderer, so I don't know what that means about me!” said Wechsler.

While he likes playing the one not causing all the craziness in the Hamptons, Wechsler told me he is also enjoying the different side of his character that has come out this recently after the turmoil he faced last season with the death of both his brother, Declon, and wife and mother of his child, Amanda Clarke - which ultimately led to his discovery that Emily is actually the real Amanda Clarke.
“I do particularly like getting to explore the darker parts of it. Being a good guy who's going dark is sort of an awesome idea to me and is a little more fun than being truly good or truly bad,” Wechsler said. “This season we just got more of the same mystery and darkness on Emily's end and then Jack is just trying to be good; a good father to his child and a good mate to the girl that's he now kind of seeing, Margaux (Karine Vanasse). But he's always got an eye over on Emily.”

As to whether or not Jack's eye will remain on Emily, Wechsler says one thing he can say is that her near death experience will definitely soften the tension between them.
“We finally did the big reveal of how we arrived to the conclusion of her getting shot. She was in the hospital and she lost her memory and Jack was the one who was able to sort of pull her out of it. And he's been so angry at her leading up to this moment; and I think in that moment, knowing he almost lost her, he's like, 'I don't care about my grudge. I will deal with it privately. I still think it's messed up but we're fine. We're good. I just want you to be alive.' Even while he is starting to pursue his relationship with Margo, as he furthers that relationship, I think he is also like now that I'm not so mad at Emily, it's so hard to...he's going to start being pulled in two directions more than ever.”

"Revenge" airs Sunday nights at 9pm on ABC.
