Earlier this year "New Girl" fans were treated to a half-hour with Nick Miller's semi-charming and extremely cunning conman father. Now, according to a Feb. 6 Entertainment Weekly story, Nick's mom is going to be gracing the small screen in March. Emmy winning actress Margo Martindale has been cast in the role.
Martindale comes to the show as both a television and movie actress. Some of her more recent film roles include a psychiatrist in the thriller "Orphan" and turns in the dramas "Secretariat," "The Hours" and "The Savages" while her impressive television credits include multi-episode roles in "Dexter," "A Gifted Man" and "Justified." The latter program led to her first Emmy win for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.
It seems that Jess will encounter Nick's mom on her home turf in Chicago when the L.A.- based loft troupe travels to the Windy City with Miller. This episode will provide a rare opportunity for fans to experience an alternate universe where Nick is actually the most mature person in the room. It should be an interesting development for the wannabe zombie book author to be the straight man, a position he has rarely enjoyed since early in Season 1.
Additional comic gold should occur when mom refuses to take to the perky Jessica Day and assesses her relationship with Nick with a critical eye. Given the big kiss that occurred on Jan. 29, the awkwardness that will ensue when questions are asked about the nature of Jess and Nick's friendship will be "must-see television."
