Nick Jonas dropped his debut solo single entitled, “Chains”, on Thursday, July 24. This definitely has a much different sound than the Jonas Brothers bubble gum pop feel. The sound of "Chains" borders on a R&B/soul feel that Jonas can really channel with his range of vocals. It will be intriguing to see what the rest of the album sounds like. The lyrics of chains are deep and melancholy:

Gave you my heart, but you took my soul / You got me in chains, you got me in chains for your love."

Unlike most of the Jonas Brothers’ songs, which Nick took the lead on writing, he didn’t write this one himself. Nick does say he “feels connected” to "Chains", which was written by Jason Evigan, Amar Malik and Danny Parker.

The Jo-Bros have been back and forth on whether or not they want to stay together as a band for a few years now. Back in 2010, Nick dropped an album he called a “side project” entitled Who I Am, under the name Nick Jonas and the Administration, and did a brief tour.

The Jonas Brothers have not released an album since 2009's Lines, Vines, and Trying Times, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Brother Joe Jonas released his own solo album in October of 2011 entitled Fastlife. The album was not well received and only sold 18,000 copies in its first week. The Jonas Brothers officially announced their split in October of 2013, citing a “deep rift within the band.”
