Nick Diaz looks past GSP and declares he could beat Anderson Silva

Only Nick Diaz could turn one of the most anticipated high profile fights of the year into a three ring circus. On March 16th, Diaz will challenge Georges St-Pierre in the main event of UFC 158 live on PPV from Montreal, Canada. But instead of just focusing on this incredible challenge, Diaz looks past GSP and talks about moving up to the middleweight division and fighting Anderson Silva. According to a March 7th report by MMAJunkie.com, Diaz made the following comments:

"I look past every opponent to get to the No. 1 spot of the welterweight division, and I look further beyond that. If it were up to me, I would take that fight with Anderson Silva. I would say, 'Yeah, of course.' I'm looking for the next best thing, and the next best thing is always the closer fight to the No. 1 fight, and that's what I've been working toward this whole time."

Apparently, Diaz believes that a fight with Silva is closer to the number one fight that he's dreaming of. Not only does he want to fight Silva, but he thinks he can beat Anderson. If Diaz is able to upset GSP in his homeland then a match vs. Silva wouldn't be that crazy of an idea. However, most pundits feel that St-Pierre will defeat Diaz, which would crush Nick's aspirations of being number one for the time being.

Diaz is somewhat of a loose cannon. His attitude has gotten him into plenty of trouble in MMA. However, he's an incredibly talented fighter that seems to fight with a controlled fury. Despite Diaz's rationale for looking past fighters, it's probably best that he just focuses on GSP, who happens to be one of the top 3 pound for pound fighters in the world.
