Nick Carter is off the market. The Backstreet Boy proposed to girlfriend Lauren Kitt in the Florida Keys, according to a Feb. 22 PEOPLE report. “I had the ring in my pocket for two weeks,” the Carter told PEOPLE exclusively. “I was like, 'I don't want it anymore!' It was driving me insane. I just wanted to get it out of my hands and on to hers.”
So how did Carter show his girlfriend the shape of his heart? He whisked fitness expert/actress Kitt to the Keys, where he planned a romantic boat ride to a secluded island. After a few hiccups with his boat which was in bad condition the couple eventually set sail to a small island with a group of friends and the bride-to-be’s father.
Upon arriving to at the island, Carter dropped to one knee and gave his love a seven-carat diamond ring. “She said, 'Yes,' and I'm, like, 'I don't know what to do,” Carter said of the proposal. “She said, 'You're supposed to put it on my finger.' So I did. I was in shock.”
The happy bride-to-be said even after four years of dating she was pleasantly surprised. “I wasn't expecting it. It just felt very surreal,” explains Kitt. “We both are just so happy in love right now and on cloud nine.”
According to E! News, Carter excitedly shared the post-engagement moment with his fans when he posted a photo to Instagram with the caption, “Big question…great answer.”
So when is the wedding? Well, that’s up to the band. “Our first thought was, 'We need to contact the Backstreet Boys and find out when their schedule will permit,'” Kitt said of the wedding planning. “It's not up to us. It's up to the schedule. We're just excited and looking forward to the next chapter of our lives.” According to PEOPLE, the band is working on a new album and prepping for an upcoming anniversary event.
