On April 4, 2014, “America’s Got Talent” held auditions at the Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The show’s judges (Howard Stern, Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel and Mel B) were there, and so was host Nick Cannon. “America's Got Talent,” NBC’s top-rated summer series, returns in 2014 with performers from across the country ready to compete in the blockbuster reality show’s ninth season, which premieres on May 27, 2014.

With the talent search open to acts of all ages, “America's Got Talent” has brought the variety format back to the forefront of American culture by showcasing unique performers from across the country. The show features a colorful array of singers, dancers, comedians, contortionists, impressionists, jugglers, magicians, ventriloquists and hopeful stars, all vying for their chance to win America's hearts and the $1 million prize. Here is what Cannon said during a red-carpet interview at "America's Got Talent" Season 9 auditions in New York City.

You made headlines for your recent Howard Stern interview in which you talked about some of your ex-lovers, including Kim Kardashian. You said that your wife, Mariah Carey, doesn't know who Kim Kardashian is. Is that really true? It's hard to believe.

Let me clear this up. If there was a lineup of brunette girls with big butts, and if Kim was in that lineup, my wife still wouldn't be able to pick her out. She [Mariah Carey] doesn't watch reality television. She's focused on her albums and her music. She doesn't get caught up in celebrity gossip ... Ask her about Disney and Pixar characters. She knows all of them.

If Mariah doesn't watch reality TV, then what kinds of shows does she watch?

She might have a television show that she might watch on Netflix. And she's the biggest fan of "Scandal." She knows who Olivia Pope is.

Does it bother her that you talk so openly about your ex-lovers in a high-profile interview?

She knows I'm crazy. She's like, "I'm staying silent." She knows I can be weird and crazy.

You like to dress in unusual and flashy clothes. Why is that?

Attention-seeking behavior! It's a problem.

What milestones have your kids (twins Moroccan and Monroe) reached recently?

We're trying to get them to stop doing stuff at this point. They're doing algebra! It's amazing! They're singing and dancing and feeding themselves. I don't have to do anything anymore. They're just running the house!

How would you describe your parenting style?

I don't spoil them. I'm the disciplinarian in the household. Everyone else spoils them.

So you're saying that Mariah spoils your kids?

Yeah. The fact that they sleep in our bed every single night ... They need to sleep in their own room!

When do you think your kids will sleep in their own room?

I don't know. I was one of those kids who slept in my mom's room forever too. So they'll probably be in our bed until they're 18! [He laughs.]

Do you have their birthday party planned for them this year? [The twins turn 3 years old on April 30, 2014, which is also Carey and Cannon's sixth wedding anniversary.]

I do! I can't say anything though because it's a surprise. I'm still working on it.

So you think your kids will become professional entertainers?

I hope not. I want them to be heart surgeons. People put too much emphasis on entertainment.

In interviews, you sometimes talk about your sex life. How does Mariah feel about that?

She actually tells me to keep my mouth shut. People ask me questions, and I answer them. I'm brutally honest. I only talk about good stuff. If it was bad, I'd keep it to myself.

Is there anything that she's told you that you cannot say in your stand-up comedy routine?

No. Even when I talked about the taste of her breast milk, that was a big issue that we had to talk about. But from that point on, she was like, "You can talk about whatever you want in your stand-up, as long as it's respectful." I think I'm really respectful. I just say things most people don't say.

What's the most romantic thing that Mariah has done for you?

So many things. But I would have to say when I was sick, you don't feel good about yourself, and when someone so amazing and so beautiful tries to make you still feel attractive, you know, like in the hospital bed, she'd give real nice massages and flowers. It seems a little cheesy, but when you go through hard times, it feels good to know, "Wow, someone really loves me."
