Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey Separate: AGT Host Confirms Split, Says Kids Are His Focus
The "America's Got Talent" host and the Grammy award-winning pop star wed in 2008, and welcomed fraternal twins (a boy and a girl) in 2011.
"There's trouble in paradise," Cannon confirmed to The Insider With Yahoo in an August 21 interview. "We have been living in separate houses for a few months."
"My main focus is my kids," Cannon shared, referring to the couples' new state of affairs and how it may impact three-year-old son Moroccan and daughter Monroe.
Splitting with her husband isn't the only recent change for Carey; the self-proclaimed diva recently dismissed her long-time producer and manager, Jermaine Dupri, who previously helped her craft chart-topping hits such as "We Belong Together." That particular split may have come as a result of lackluster sales of Carey's latest release, "Me. I am Mariah...The Elusive Chanteuse." (Us. We're thinking the title didn't help...the disappointing sales.)
Though many are jaded to Hollywood break ups, some fans seemed genuinely surprised by the news.
"Really?" asked a local Tucson fan of both Carey and Cannon when we inquired as to whether they had heard about the split and had any thoughts on the story. The thirty-something female fan, who did not give her name, continued. "Every couple has their issues, but I actually thought those two made a great pair. It's a little sad to hear things are not working out for them."
While it is true the couple have an 11-year age difference, that isn't necessarily integral to the split. One couple we talked to about the story report a ten-year age difference (the wife being the older spouse) and do not feel it has affected their nearly 30-year marriage in any significant way. "It really isn't about age. You love who you love."
