Remember the movie version of the "Death of Superman" storyline that was supposed to come out in the 90s? You know, the one that
Tim Burton was supposed to direct. Any nerd worth his salt has downloaded and read
Kevin Smith's script entitled "Superman Lives."
It wasn't half bad if you take out the homosexual robots, wrestling polar bears, and giant spider -- excuse me... Thanagarian Snare Beast-- that producer (and former hair stylist)
Jon Peters mandated.
Remember how disappointed you were when it never got made and you were forced to wait an extra 10 years just to get a
Superman movie where the Man of Steel never throws a single punch?
Well, perhaps Rao was looking out for all of us on that one.
Nicolas Cage was the actor slated to don the cape and crest in what would have been the fifth flick. While his love of the character can be appreciated (he named his child Kal-el for goodness sake), his portrayal may have been a little lacking, even horrific. This supposed "test shot" just hit the net, origninally posted by a Tim Burton fansite.
It's unclear who's more to blame for this travesty, Burton, Cage, or Peters. Perhaps a bit of all three. But, regardless, this pic gives a glimpse into the perfect storm of suck that could have been "Superman Lives." Seriously, Doomsday couldn't have killed Superman quicker than this would have.
