On Feb. 16, 2014, One Direction's Niall Horan was seen hanging out in London with singer/actress Selena Gomez. According to 98.7 Amp Radio, the news broke when a fan posted a photo of herself with Horan and Gomez that day. The news about Horan and Gomez hanging out immediately led to speculation that they are dating. Neither has commented on the status of their relationship.
And don't expect Horan to comment anytime soon. Ever since One Direction found fame on "The X Factor" U.K. in 2010, he has not publicly named anyone whom he has dated. Even when he is seen out on dates, he has not announced that he has a "girlfriend." In fact, when he is asked in interviews about his love life, he always says that he is single, available, and does not have a girlfriend.
Gomez famously had an on-again, off-again romance with troubled pop star Justin Bieber since 2010. The former couple broke up again in 2013. In February 2014, a spokesperson for Gomez announced that Gomez had been in rehab for less than a month in January 2014, but the spokesperson insisted that the rehab was for emotional issues, not addiction to drugs or alcohol.
Gomez, who says she has lupus, also cancelled several concerts in her 2014 tour of Asia and Australia because of her health issues. She issued this statement: "My fans are so important to me and I would never want to disappoint them. But it has become clear to me and those close to me that after many years of putting my work first, I need to spend some time on myself in order to be the best person I can be. To my fans, I sincerely apologize and I hope you guys know how much each and every one of you mean to me."
After getting out of rehab, Gomez was at the 2014 Sundance Film Fesitval in Park City, Utah, to promote her movie "Rudderless."
In late 2013, Horan was romantically linked to model Barbara Palvin, who also used to date Bieber. Horan and Palvin were seen out on dates together, but Horan never publicly commented on the status of their relationship.
This isn't the first time that Gomez has been linked to a member of an "X Factor" boy band.
In 2013, she briefly dated George Shelley from Union J, the boy band that came in fourth place on "The X Factor" U.K. in 2012. Union J was the opening act for Gomez at a few concerts in Europe. Gomez and Shelley said that they were "just friends," but several media outlets reported that Gomez and Shelley really had a fling.
Bieber has not publicly commented on Horan apparently dating two of his ex-girlfriends. Bieber was a close friend of One Direction in 2012, but it seems that the friendship isn't as close as it used to be. The members of One Direction may be distancing themselves from Bieber because of his arrests and other problems that seem to be related to Bieber and his current circle of friends.
Meanwhile, Demi Lovato (a close friend of Gomez's) and Horan sent gossip media into a frenzy in 2012 when they admitted that they had crushes on each other. Horan and Lovato insisted that they were "just friends" and denied rumors that they dated, although they admitted that they liked to flirt with each other.
Lovato has since reunited with her on-again/off-again boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama (who is best known for co-starring in the sitcom "The '70s Show") and has been the subject of rumors that she's bisexual. Ruby Rose, a DJ from Australia, claims that she had a lesbian fling with Lovato. When nude photos of Lovato were leaked in 2013, tabloids reported that it was one of Lovato's female ex-lovers who leaked the pictures. Lovato has not commented on the rumors or the nude photos. She is working on a memoir, but it's doubtful that she will talk about those rumors in the book.
Lovato was a judge on "The X Factor" U.S. in 2012 and 2013. Lovato quit the show in December 2013, a few days after Simon Cowell told the media that he wanted an all-new judging panel for the show in 2014. Lovato said she was leaving "The X Factor" because she wanted to focus on her music career. Two months after she quit, Fox cancelled the show.
Gomez and One Direction each performed on "The X Factor" U.S. in 2013.
