Niall Horan copies Harry Styles, buys black Range Rover after passing auto test

One Direction's Niall Horan, 19, has followed in the footsteps of his One Direction band mate Harry Styles, 18, by buying a black Range Rover as his first car after passing the required driving test for a license. According to The Sun, Horan made the car purchase in London on January 11, 2013, three days after he passed his driving test in Borehamwood, Essex, England. The Sun reports that Horan paid £70,000 (or $112,854 in U.S. dollars) for the Range Rover.

Styles bought a black Range Rover from his stepfather in late 2011, when he was dating "The Xtra Factor" co-host Caroline Flack, who also drives a black Range Rover. Styles still has the Range Rover, but he is more likely to be seen driving his black Audi R8, which is very familiar to the paparazzi who follow Styles around. Styles bought the Audi R8 for a reported £100,000 (or $161,220 in U.S. dollars).

An unnamed source told The Sun what it was like when Horan took his driving test, which he passed on his first try, despite making two mistakes: “He stopped to speak with fans and signed lots of autographs during his lessons. He never turned anyone down who wanted to get their picture taken with him. Even with all of that, his instructor was still overheard saying he had never had a pupil so focused on passing his test.”

On January 11, 2013, One Direction's Louis Tomlinson, 21, tweeted: "Just want to say a belated congrats to @niallofficial for passing his driving test ! Smashed it !"

In July 2012, Tomlinson bought a black Range Rover for a reported £90,000 (or $145,098 in U.S. dollars). Tomlinson also had a black Porsche Boxster, which he bought for £50,000 (or $80,610 in U.S. dollars), but in August 2012, he sold the Porsche on eBay. The winning bidder paid £30,000 (or $48,366 in U.S. dollars), according to The Sun.

One Direction was formed on "The X Factor" U.K. in 2010, when five singers who originally auditioned as solo singers were put into a group by "The X Factor" executive producer Simon Cowell and other decision makers. (One Direction came in third place on the show.) The other members of One Direction are Liam Payne, 19, and Zayn Malik, 20. Cowell signed One Direction to Syco Music, the record company that he co-owns with Sony Music.

As the biggest global act to emerge from "The X Factor," One Direction has had No. 1 hits in several countries, but the group makes most of its millions through touring and merchandising. In 2012, One Direction was the best-selling new group in many countries, including the United States.
