The NHTSA is investingating 725,000 Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan sedans and Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner crossover vehicles following reports of possible problems with the electronic throttle body a part of the engine's fuel delivery system that could cause a sudden loss of engine power, forcing the vehicles into “limp home mode.” Affected models include model years 2009-2011.
"Consumers have reported incidents of electronic throttle body failure while driving, resulting in sudden reduction of engine power," the National Highweay safety Administration’s Office of Defects Investigation said.
In response Ford issued a statement today that it is "cooperating fully with the government on this investigation."
The NHTSA’s ODI had received 123 complaints and that Ford had received 1,472 complaints. In addition, they reported that 27,505 warranty claims had been filed relating to "repair or replacement of the subject component."
