NHTSA gives Fusion 5-star rating

The 2013 Ford Fusion (reviewed here) recently received a top safety award from the government.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave the Fusion and Fusion Hybrid an overall rating of five stars in its New Car Assessment Program testing.

The midsize sedan already had received a Top Safety Pick+ for 2013 models from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

The NHTSA testing involves performance in frontal and side-impact crashes plus resistance to rollover.

The Fusion features the company’s Personal Safety System that features new safety belt technologies and eight airbags, including redesigned seat-mounted side airbags that are designed to give added protection to the lower pelvis area of occupants.
