Doug Kalitta (Top Fuel), Robert Hight (Funny Car), Erica Enders-Stevens (Pro Stock) and Andrew Hines (Pro Stock Motorcycle) continue to top the NHRA points standings following this weekend’s NHRA Sonoma Nationals at Sonoma Raceway in California.
Kalitta (1,223) leads second-place Antron Brown (1,177) by 46 points. Sonoma runner-up Shawn Langdon (1,065) clinched a spot in the Countdown to the Championship, joining Kalitta and Brown. Tony Schumacher (911) and Steve Torrence (867) round out the Top Fuel top five.
Hight (1,216) leads team owner and Sonoma runner-up John Force (1,097) in Funny Car, followed by Ron Capps (957), Sonoma winner Courtney Force (941) and Tommy Johnson Jr. (938). John Force joined Hight with a berth in the Countdown to the Championship.
Enders-Steven (1,229) continues to lead the Pro Stock standings in spite of skipping the Sonoma Nationals. She’s ahead of Allen Johnson (1,107) and Jason Line (1,074). Jeg Coughlin Jr. (1,073) sits fourth in points, followed by Dave Connolly (1,023) in fifth. Johnson, Line, Coughlin Jr. and Connolly joined Enders-Stevens in securing spots in the Countdown.
Hines (853) leads his Screamin’ Eagle Harley teammate Eddie Krawiec (862) by 91 points. Hector Arana Jr. (614), who locked up a spot in the Countdown, sits third, followed by his father, Hector Arana (542) in fourth and John Hall (516) in fifth.
The Western Swing concludes next weekend, Friday through Sunday, August 1st through 3rd, with the NHRA Northwest Nationals at Pacific Raceways in Kent, Washington, near Seattle. Keep up with the action at www.nhra.com.
