Don Schumacher Racing drivers Tony Schumacher and Ron Capps took over the point leads in Top Fuel and Funny Car, respectively, following their victories at the NHRA Arizona Nationals at Firebird International Raceway on Sunday. Vincent Nobile maintains a slim lead in the Pro Stock points.
Schumacher (228 points) has a 79-point lead on Winternationals winner Shawn Langdon (149) and an 80-point lead on 2012 Top Fuel champ Antron Brown (148). Khalid alBalooshi (131) and Morgan Lucas (124) round out the top five in Top Fuel.
Capps (210 points) has a 45-point lead over Winternationals winner Courtney Force (165). Capps’ DSR teammate Matt Hagan sits third (151), with Bob Tasca III (124) and DSR’s Johnny Gray (121) completing the top five in Funny Car. 2012 champ Jack Beckman sits 11th in points following two first-round exits this season.
Nobile (171 points), winner at the Winternationals, has a slim lead over Arizona Nationals winner Erica Enders-Stevens (155), Mike Edwards (153), Jeg Coughlin Jr. (149) and V. Gaines (142). 2012 champ Allen Johnson is tied for seventh with Greg Anderson.
The NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series is off until March 14th through 17th, when the teams head to Gainesville, Florida for the historic Amalie Oil NHRA Gatornationals at Auto Plus Raceway at Gainesville. Stay up-to-date with the NHRA at www.nhra.com.
