The NHRA has announced a multi-year agreement with MiraMonte Records for a lucrative race-within-a-race bonus program for Pro Stock Motorcycle competitors in the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series. The MiraMonte Records NHRA Pro Bike Battle will be contested during the NHRA Sonoma Nationals on Saturday, July 26th, with television coverage provided by ESPN2.
Riders begin earning points for the 2014 Pro Bike Battle at the Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals this weekend. The eight riders accumulating the most qualifying points during the seven races leading up to the event at Sonoma will earn a berth in the Pro Bike Battle.
“We’re looking forward to some heart-pounding competition in the MiraMonte Records NHRA Pro Bike Battle,” said Danny Griego, C.O.O. of MiraMonte Records, who is also a songwriter and entertainer. “We are grateful to increase our presence in NHRA Drag Racing and we believe this opportunity is an excellent way to help showcase the unparalleled action and energy of the Pro Stock Motorcycle category. We can’t wait to roll into Sonoma and see the world’s quickest Pro Stock Motorcycle teams go after the MiraMonte Records NHRA Pro Bike Battle title.”
Riders will compete for a total purse of $68,000: $61,000 for the Battle purse and $7,000 in bonuses for the quickest Pro Stock Motorcycle qualifiers at each NHRA Mello Yello Series event throughout the Battle series ($1,000 per event). The MiraMonte Records NHRA Pro Bike Battle winner will receive $25,000. The runner-up will earn $10,000. The two semifinalists will earn $6,000 each. The four first round finishers will earn $3,500 apiece.
“With MiraMonte Records’ support of this bonus program for Pro Stock Motorcycle competitors, we’re guaranteed to increase the level of excitement in the popular two-wheel category during the famed Western Swing,” said John Siragusa, NHRA senior director of sales. “The MiraMonte Records NHRA Pro Bike Battle will certainly add a level of drama and intrigue to the NHRA Sonoma Nationals and provide one of the best showcases of high performance in the world of professional motorcycle drag racing.”
