The NHL has officially announced that the 2013 Winter Classic will take place at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor and feature the Red Wings taking on the Maple Leafs. That works for me, but now it is time to look at this weekend's slate of NHL games. Teams are nearing the 60 game mark, and the trade deadline is approaching. The football season is over now too. Time to throw yourself into hockey. There are 12 games on Saturday and seven on Sunday. That's a lot of puck.
There are so many matinee games on Saturday. Six games start at 2:00 PM Eastern or earlier. Some of the games are quite good too. Nashville against Boston is a top notch game, although it could be low scoring with those teams. Florida and New Jersey are battling for playoff spots. The Rangers take on the Flyers, which is a strong rivalry game. Winnipeg visits Pittsburgh, who will see Jordan Staal return, and then Edmonton takes on Ottawa on CBC. Is this Saturday Hockey Day in Canada? There are three games between Canadian teams, so my guess is yes. The other two games are Montreal against Toronto and Vancouver versus Calgary. Good stuff.
Saturday begins with Washington visiting the Rangers at 12:30 This game was supposed to be the NHL on NBC game, I presume, but according to ESPN.com's schedule they are now on NBC Sports. Instead, Detroit and Philadelphia will square off at 7:30 on NBC. Primetime network hockey? Truly, football season is over. Los Angeles taking on Dallas is a good game, and San Jose against St. Louis is another exciting matchup.
There's a lot of hockey this weekend. Hopefully you will have the time to watch it. If not, then you are dead to me. Maybe that is too harsh. Enjoy the games!
