The Buffalo Sabres secured a second straight victory to start their season with a 2-1 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Jan. 21, 2013. Thanks to standout performances from goalie Ryan Miller and forward Jason Pominville it was another great night for the Northeast division team.
Pominville lead the offensive for the Sabres with a goal and an assist that were the difference on the night for the club as they took two points away from home at the Air Canada Center in Toronto.
However, the real star of the game was Sabres goalie Ryan Miller. The American shot stopper made 34 saves in an all-star caliber performance. In his post match interview with ESPN he was happy to have finally pulled one over on the Leafs after they had won last years series against the Sabres:
"It's time to get back at them," Miller said. "We're in one of the biggest cities for hockey, it's great to come and play in front of these fans. It's a big compliment to Buffalo that we've got great fans and in the area. I feel like this is the whole hockey area -- a big hotbed -- so we come and just try to enjoy yourself and have some fun and it's fun to win here."
Miller has 61 saves between his first two wins of the season and both Thomas Vanek and Pominville are off to great starts with each of them leading the team to solid victories on back to back occasions.
The Sabres now have a few nights off after their great start to the season before they travel to Raleigh, NC to face the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday Jan. 24, 2013.
