NHL proposes a four division realignment: Wings would move to the East

The NHL has proposed a realignment to take effect for the 2013-14 season. Here is how the four divisions would shake out:

WESTERN CONFERENCE

Pacific Division

Anaheim

Calgary

Edmonton

Los Angeles

Phoenix

San Jose

Vancouver

Mid-West Division

Chicago

Colorado

Dallas

Minnesota

Nashville

St. Louis

Winnipeg

EASTERN CONFERENCE

Central Division

Boston

Buffalo

Detroit

Florida

Montreal

Ottawa

Tampa Bay

Toronto

Atlantic Division

Carolina

Columbus

New Jersey

NY Islanders

NY Rangers

Philadelphia

Pittsburgh

Washington

The playoff format would be as followed: The top three teams from each division would get playoff berths (for a total of six). The final two playoff spots would be Wild Cards and could come from either division from a given conference.

Some interesting notes, the change would leave the Chicago Blackhawks as the only Original Six team in the West as our Detroit Red Wings would move to the East and share a division with the Boston Bruins, Montreal Canadians and Toronto Maple Leafs.
