NHL injury news/notes as of Jan, 18, 2014:

1) Vancouver Canucks - Roberto Luongo's is listed as day-to-day. The Star goaltender has not played since suffering an ankle injury during a collision with Dustin Brown on Jan 4, 2014. Forward Alex Burrows (IR since Dec 2, 2013 - Fractured jaw ) is expected to play on Saturday, Jan 18, 2014 vs Calgary Flames. It is unknown if Forward Henrik Sedin (rib injury) will play against Calgary. If Sedin cannot go, it will break his ironman streak of 679 consecutive games played.

2) Colorado Avalanche - Forward Paul Stastny is expected back in action Saturday vs Nashville, after missing 2 games (leg injury). Veteran forward Alex Tanguay suffered a hip injury during his recovery from a knee issue, in Nov, 2013. It had been feared he would need season-ending hip surgery. Tanguay has played in only 13 games this season. Tanguay is close to returning, but it is not known whether it will be before or after the 2014 Winter Olympics.

3) Edmonton Oilers - The team has confirmed that talented but erratic forward Nail Yakupov is dealing with a head injury as a result of a hit from Minnesota Wild forward Matt Cooke. At this point, there is no timetable for his return.

4) San Jose Sharks - Forward Logan Couture (wrist surgery Jan 8, 2013) is expected to be out until after the Olympic break. Couture has 14 goals and 35 points in 43 games played this season. Logan was not chosen for the 2014 Canadian Olympic team.

5) Columbus Blue Jackets - Forward Marian Gaborik (broken collarbone Dec 21, 2013) is hopeful to play in the 2014 Winter Olympics, but that is doubtful. Whether or not he plays in the Olympics, he likely will not play for his NHL team again, until after the Olympic break.

6) Anaheim Ducks - Defenseman Sheldon Souray had season-ending wrist surgery on Jan 17. Defenseman Luca Sbisa (IR since Nov 23, 2013 - torn tendon in right hand ) is nearing his return, and is currently at Norfolk (AHL) for conditioning purposes.

7) Winnipeg Jets - Defenseman Grant Clitsome underwent season-ending back surgery on Jan 17, 2014. Clitsome had not played since Dec 17, 2013.

8) St Louis Blues - Forward Alex Steen (Concussion, IR since Dec 21, 2013) is expected back in action for Saturday Jan 18 game vs Anaheim.
