According to TSN, there will be a National Hockey League season and Stanley Cup champion in 2013. Yes, there was a lockout of 112 days that wiped out 34 games for each team, including the Calgary Flames. But the NHL is back, and will play a condensed schedule of 48 games per team starting on January 19.
On Sunday, the National Hockey League and National Hockey League Players’ Association came to a ten year agreement.
Here are some of the key elements in the deal:
–Seven year limit to player contracts and eight year limits if players re-sign with their own team.
–A reduced salary cap of $64.3 million for the 2013-14 NHL season.
–Each team is allowed two amnesty buyouts that are not counted against the cap.
–The players will receive 50% of all hockey related revenue, down from 57% last season.
–NHL teams can walk away from a deal in salary arbitration, if the player is awarded at least $3.5 million.
–All 14 teams that miss the postseason are eligible for the first overall draft pick.
–Revenue sharing will be $200 million.
