The Detroit Lion and Baltimore Ravens close out NFL schedule 2013's Week 15 with a MNF matchup, which NFL odds and lines favor the home team by a score. According to a Dec. 16 ESPN report, tonight's Week 15 finale will come down to quarterback pressure and winning the turnover battle.
Monday Night Football odds and lines both favor the Lions to conquer those areas, listing them as single-digit favorites to defeat the visiting Ravens. Currently, Las Vegas point spreads have Baltimore at +7 [+190 ML] versus Detroit at -7 [-225 ML], while the OVER/UNDER set at a combined total of 50 points.
From an offensive, statistical point of view, most expert NFL predictions and picks would suggest Matthew Stafford and the felines should easily cover tonight's spread versus Joe Flacco and the birds by outscoring them.
Offensively, the Lions rank sixth in points (26.6 ppg), third in yards (409.6 typg) and passing yards (297.2 pypg), and their rushing attack is good enough for 18th in the league (112.5 rypg).
In contrast, the Ravens feature an offensive scheme that ranks below average in every category, including: 21.4 points per game (NFL Rank: 25th), 310.2 total yards (NFL Rank: 29th), 227.9 passing yards (NFL Rank: 20th) and a whopping 82.3 rushing yards per game (NFL Rank: 30th).
However, the key for this MNF game lies on the opposite side of the football, as defense will dictate who covers the spread this evening. And while the Ravens rank in the top 10 in three of the four major categories, the Lions' resistance underperforms in three of four:
Baltimore Ravens Defense (NFL Rank)
- Points Per Game: 20.1 (7th)
- Total Yards Per Game: 332.8 (9th)
- Pass Yards Per Game 231.7 (13th)
- Rush Yards Per Game: 101.2 (7th)
Detroit Lions Defense (NFL Rank)
- Points Per Game: 24.7 (16th)
- Total Yards Per Game: 355.2 (16th)
- Pass Yards Per Game: 255.8 (26th)
- Rush Yards Per Game: 99.3 (5th)
Coincidentally, NFL predictions and picks experts seem to agree, as 52 percent of the population is betting on the Ravens to cover, compared to 48 percent who believe otherwise.
In terms of tonight's OVER/UNDER (odds/lines) total, considering the emphasis on defense, it would only make sense to assume these teams will combine and score less than the projected half-century point-mark.
However, in this area, the betting public totally disagrees, as 65 percent are taking the OVER, versus just 35 percent of those who believe points will be at a premium in this NFL schedule 2013 Week 15 clincher.
