The New York Giants are coming off a disappointing season after winning a second Super Bowl title in five years. Heading into the off-season, the Giants have some concerns with certain players potentially heading elsewhere in free agency with Victor Cruz receiving considerable interest as a restricted free agent according to Ian Rapport of NFL.com as of March 8:
NFL.com's Ian Rapoport hears there is already "a ton of interest" on Cruz, with "plenty of teams just waiting for their opening" once free agency kicks off.
In 2011, Cruz had a breakout season with the Giants with 82 catches for 1,536 yards and nine touchdowns. New York become convinced, as did many other teams around the league, that Cruz was the real deal and potentially on his way to becoming an elite wide receiver in the NFL.
Last season, Cruz was unable to produce the same numbers in terms of receiving with almost 500 less at 1,096. Despite the drop in receiving yards in 2012, Cruz still made a huge impact for the Giants with career-high 86 receptions and 10 touchdowns.
Needless to say, Cruz is a star on the rise in the NFL and may be headed elsewhere via free agency if New York is unable to match offers from other teams interested in his services.
