NFL Rumors: Calvin Johnson restructures contract; Umenyiora, Dumervil rumors

The Detroit Lions may be coming off of a horrible season, but they are doing things this off-season that they haven't done in decades - making free agency moves. Another reason to be optimistic if you are a Lions fan, all of this "restructuring of contracts" taking place.

First defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh restructured his deal to create extra cap room last week and according to Pride of Detroit, the Lions also restructured wide receiver Calvin Johnson's contract by converting most of his base salary for 2013 into a signing bonus.

Could this mean they are freeing up cap space to sign a star like Elvis Dumervile or Osi Umenyiora?

Detroit has already done something they rarely do by signing three key available free agents, including Reggie Bush.

Seeing stars like Suh and Johnson restructure their deal has to make Lions fans think that maybe they are going after one more key player.

The Lions sorely need a DE that can attack the opposing QB and with Elvis Dumervile and Osi Umenyiora on the market it will be interesting to see if the Lions go after one of them.
