The Baltimore Raven's may have just been crowned the NFL Super Bowl Champions, however, that also means their list of free agents that include quarterback Joe Flacco and defensive back Ed Reed just got a little bit more expensive. According to ESPN's Adem Schefter on Feb. 4, 2013, that bill could cost them more than just cash.
Schefter is reporting that the Raven's could potentially cut wide receiver Anquan Bolden in order to free up the necessary salary cap room to re-sign their stars such as QB Joe Flacco, S Ed Reed, CB Cary Williams and LBs Paul Kruger and Dannell Ellerbe in the coming weeks.
Many will look at Bolden's performances in the playoffs and think that the Raven's are crazy, but his bordering pathetic regular season display of only 22 catches for 380 yards and four touchdowns begs to differ if he is still good enough to help the Raven's run for a repeat.
The loss of Ray Lewis also makes the importance of re-signing of defensive stars Reed, Williams, Kruger and Ellerbe that much greater. Despite the career history that Bolden is a solid receiver and can produce, aside from what was an obvious off-year, the Raven's could be forced into letting him walk because of more pressing needs.
Bolden would likely demand a high price no matter where he went and the Houston Texans could be a team interested in a play making receiver such as himself to finally have a compliment to Andre Johnson who has been carry far to much of the load for the Texans for a long time.
