On Tuesday September 10, CBSSportsline.com acknowledges that multiple reports say the chances of Danny Amendola playing on Thursday night is not great. The oft injured Amendola fought through a groin strain last Sunday against the Buffalo Bills. With the short week, he might not recover in time.
Danny Amendola, the replacement for Wes Welker in more ways than one, caught 10 passes in the opening game for 104 yards. If he is unable to go in two days, the Patriots will be shorthanded on a short week.
Earlier in the week, backup running back and playmaker, Shane Vereen suffered a broken wrist. He is out at least a couple of weeks at least with the injury. That bad news is coupled with the fact that pro bowl tight end Rob Gronkowski won’t be available for Thursday night’s game as well.
Will all of these unfortunate injuries, CBSsports.com notes that Julian Edelman should receive even more playing time and targets. Edelman already has two touchdown catches on the year.
Even though the Patriots struggled with the Bills, their offense was fully functional at times. Still, how many setbacks can one team take before it effects the win loss column? The mistakes had the Patriots on the ropes, but they bounced back with a game winning drive.
As of now, expect Danny Amendola to try and give it a go on Thursday. He still has over 48 hours to heal up.
