In a fascinating story by CBSsports.com, it has reported on Thursday October 12, there may have been some funny business why Josh Freeman wasn’t named captain for his fourth consecutive season. In fact, PFT reports that a players only meeting was held because they questioned the legitimacy of this vote.
Head coach Greg Schiano called the story “100 percent inaccurate.” What isn’t inaccurate is the turmoil that’s taking place down in Tampa. It might be the worst kept secret, but it’s obvious that Josh Freeman is not in Greg Schiano’s long term plans.
With that bit of breaking news, the chances of Freeman remaining with the Bucs beyond this season is looking highly unlikely. According to the Tampa Tribune, Josh Freeman decided to skip the team photo last week.
Is there any wonder why the Buccaneers got off to such a slow start against the Jets on Sunday? It’s human nature to not show up to places where you aren’t wanted. Yet, when the pressure was mounting, Freeman led his team down the field on what should have been a game winning drive. However, like his team photo, there was no evidence that he showed up late.
If the story remains that the captain votes were manipulated, maybe it should be time for both parties to move on after the season.
