Even when things are looking bad for the country a good NFL game seems to pick up most everyone's spirits. The extreme popularity of the NFL has been reflected in a recent poll showing the NFL is the most popular sport for the 30th year in row, reported ESPN on Jan. 26, 2014. Pro football remains the most popular sport in America for at least the past 30 years.

In a survey taken by Harris Poll, adult fans, ages 18 and over, were asked about their favorite sport since 1985. 35 percent of fans called the NFL their favorite sport, followed by Major League Baseball at 14 percent. When this poll was first taken in 1985 the NFL beat out MLB by just one percentage point, at 24 to 23 percent. Since that time the NFL has experienced a huge rise in popularity while interest in baseball has fallen
off somewhat.

USA Today has also covered the Harris Poll which shows the NFL is the most popular sport in America for the 30th year running. For 30 straight years ever since the Harris Poll has been asking adults what their favorite sport is, the NFL received the most votes. The NFL’s literal explosion in popularity has been spectacular. The NFL got more votes than the three runners up combined, including MLB, college football, and auto racing. These findings are certain to snowball into more sports fans tuning into the NFL to see what all the excitement is about.
