NFL releases 2013 schedule, KC Chiefs to play NFC East and AFC South

The Kansas City Chiefs may not know who their next head coach will be … their quarterback … or possibly who their general manager will be, but they DO know their opponents for the 2013 season because the NFL released that information on Monday.

Along with their AFC West division opponents, the Denver Broncos, San Diego Chargers, and Oakland Raiders, Kansas City will play against the AFC South for the intraconference part of their schedule and the NFC East for interconference.

The Chiefs home schedule includes games against the Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts, Cleveland Browns, Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants, and their AFC West rivals.

The away schedule is far less glamorous, with games against Jacksonville Jaguars, Tennessee Titans, Buffalo Bills, Philadelphia Eagles and the Washington Redskins, as well as the Broncos, Raiders, and Chargers.

Dates and times for the schedule will be released later in the spring.

If there is a smidgen of hope for the Arrowhead faithful after enduring the worst season in the history of the franchise, it’s that they get the chance to see Andrew Luck, Tony Romo, Eli Manning, and his brother Peyton, four of the most recognizable quarterbacks in the league.

On the road, they’ll have to face Peyton Manning (again) and Robert Griffin III from the Redskins. Other than a declining Philip Rivers, none of the other quarterbacks for the road opponents will keep the Chiefs new defensive coordinator up at night with worry.

Of course, in Kansas City right now, it’s ALL about who will be the next Chiefs quarterback (a rookie like Geno Smith, Matt Barkley, or Tyler Wilson, or a free agent like … like … like … ummmmm – yeah, maybe a couple of rookie draft picks????). It looks like it will be the next head coach who will get to make this monumental decision and maybe not current (for now) general manager, Scott Pioli, who is currently twisting in the wind wondering about the state of his job.

Chiefs fans may be a little leery at the moment, but for the vast majority, if it’s NOT Pioli making the decision, they can live with it.
