On Wednesday, August 10, 2011, NFL quarterback Colt McCoy spoke with CBN sports journalist Shawn Brown regarding his faith in Jesus, grace, his new book “Growing up Colt” and his football career.  McCoy is in his second year with the Cleveland Browns and overcame several injuries that could have quickly ended his career.  During his interview he unabashedly gave credit and honor to Jesus Christ as he described how important his faith is in his life.

Born Daniel Colt McCoy on September 5, 1986, McCoy didn’t start playing football until he entered seventh grade, and then, he says he had to work twice as hard.  His father, Brad McCoy, worked as the football coach for his Texas high school: Jim Ned.  He spoke to Brown about the difficulties he had at the time seeing his father as both coach and father and it wasn’t until his sophomore year that he became a starter.  By 2005, McCoy was recruited by the University of Texas.  He has earned high accolades and praise along the way but also suffered a shoulder injury that left him wondering if he would make the NFL draft.  McCoy was drafted in the 2010 third round.  As his football career continues to flourish, McCoy and his father have co-authored a book together, “Growing up Colt: A Father, A Son a Life in Football” that gives readers an inside look at McCoy’s family, faith and early years in football.

McCoy discussed his faith in Jesus and how God’s grace has operated in his life.  He said, “The number one thing in my life is Jesus Christ and without Him I am nothing.  Without Him, I have accomplished nothing and I want everyone to know that, and to know that, hey- you can have the same gift, the same opportunity.  It’s free.”  McCoy continued, “God’s grace is free and He sent His son to this earth to die on the cross for our sins, and gives us that grace- that hope- of knowing that someday; when I pass this earth, I’ll have the opportunity to live with Him for eternity.”
