The NFL preseason 2013 live stream and televised schedule brings an intriguing matchup featuring two of last season's NFC playoff contenders. It will be a battle of the Vikings vs. 49er's with NFL live streaming and TV coverage provided by NBC networks. Could this be a preview of a potential NFC playoff matchup for the 2013-14 season?
An Aug. 24 report via Star Tribune captures comments and news regarding Vikings star running back Adrian Peterson. The reigning NFL MVP nearly broke the season rushing record last season without participating in any preseason games, and after not playing the first two this season, expectations were that Minnesota was keeping their star safe. However, it appears AP will get his first playing time in tonight's game, although probably briefly, and that's perfectly fine with him. Peterson told the media:
“I just want to get in and play a little bit. Just kind of knock the rust off a little bit.”
I don’t think it’s necessarily that I need it. But it’s just being out there as an offensive unit and not having any missing pieces."
As for the 49er's, their story is well known by NFL and sports fans, as the team nearly completed a comeback in the Super Bowl this year to bring the championship to San Francisco. It was thanks to young star quarterback Colin Kaepernick who took over nicely from Alex Smith partway through the season, along with a stellar defense, and the coaching of Jim Harbaugh. Many believe the 49er's could win it all this coming season, once they get past an early injury issue.
Recently, former coach/TV announcer John Madden, (star of the popular video game series), made his preseason picks for who will the AFC and NFC. It's no surprise that the San Francisco 49er's were his choice along with the AFC's Denver Broncos. USA Today reported Madden said the AFC isn't quite as dominant as the NFC, adding with regards to the 49er's choice:
"I know that is pretty easy because they were in the Super Bowl last year, but they are a young team and their quarterback (Colin Kaepernick) got them there with only playing half of the season. I know they have an injury at wide receiver (with Michael Crabtree set to sidelined at the season's start still recovering from an Achilles injury.) But I just think they have put together a heck of a team and that one for me is easier."
Coming into tonight's game, the Vikings have yet to win this preseason, with a record of 2-0. They've dropped their first two games to Houston 27-13, and then Buffalo 20-16. The 49er's are 1-1 this preseason, coming off a 15-13 win over the Chiefs last Friday, and suffering a loss 10-6 to Denver in Week 1. San Francisco enters tonight's game as 3 point home favorites to win against the Vikings.
Tonight's Minnesota Vikings vs. San Francisco 49er's matchup has a start time of 8 p.m. Eastern Standard Time from Candlestick Park. United States viewers will be able to watch the televised coverage on NBC and local affiliate stations around the nation. The game is also going to be live streaming online for free, courtesy of NBC Sports Live Extra, with more details at the site here.
