NFL Playoffs: Wes Welker's wife takes Facebook shots at Ray Lewis

The Baltimore Ravens defeated the New England Patriots in the NFL's AFC Conference Championship to reach the Super Bowl over the weekend. However, there apparently was one Patriots wife that was not too happy with the result as Anna Burns Welker, wife of Patriots receiver Wes Welker, took to her personal Facebook page on Jan. 21, 2013, with a bold faced insult to Baltimore Raven's veteran linebacker Ray Lewis.

In an attempt at misguided support for the Patriots and her husband Mrs. Welker posted this since deleted post on her Facebook page:

Proud of my husband and the Pats. By the way, if anyone is bored, please go to Ray Lewis' Wikipedia page. 6 kids 4 wives. Acquitted for murder. Paid a family off. Yay. What a hall of fame player! A true role model!

After word of her tirade circulated the media and most certainly the Patriots' and Raven's camps and front offices it brought quite a bit of controversy to the table.

ESPN Boston reported that Welker then apologized with the following statement in the hopes of restoring some dignity to herself and her husband whom had led the Patriots in receiving on Sunday with eight receptions for 117 yards and a single touchdown:

I'm deeply sorry for my recent post on Facebook. I let the competitiveness of the game and the comments people were making about a team I dearly love get the best of me. My actions were emotional and irrational and I sincerely apologize to Ray Lewis and anyone affected by my comment after yesterday's game.

It is such an accomplishment for any team to make it to the NFL playoffs, and the momentary frustration I felt should not overshadow the accomplishments of both of these amazing teams.

Ray Lewis was not available for comment on the issue, but it is certain that he and his family were rather taken aback from the incident.
