The final four teams in the NFL are remaining, and each organization got to the conference championship in different ways. There is only one Super Bowl champion left in the playoffs. Of the remaining quarterbacks, only Joe Flacco has played in a conference title game previously.
Tom Brady is one win away from his sixth Super Bowl appearance. Joe Flacco has led his Ravens team to the same spot as last year.
In the NFC, Matt Ryan and the Atlanta Falcons won their first playoff game as a regime. The final quarterback on Championship Sunday is Colin Kaepernick. Kaepernick is the newbie of the quarterback bunch.
Tom Brady vs Joe Flacco
Tom Brady
Of course Tom Brady is the number one quarterback on the board. He has already won three Super Bowls in his career. The rest of the field has not made it into Super Bowl yet, and only Joe Flacco has played in a championship game. Brady has also lost two additional Super Bowls.
Brady was 25-40 passing and he threw for three touchdowns against the Texans. In last years AFC Championship game, Brady struggled against the Ravens. He was 22-36 passing, with two interceptions and zero touchdowns. He did have one rushing touchdown.
Joe Flacco was one dropped pass away from his first Super Bowl last season. He outplayed Tom Brady in his most meaningful game, but teammates did not come through in the biggest moments. In sports, it is hard to get a reprieve, but the Ravens somehow have a chance in the same stadium, to make amends.
Last week, Flacco threw three touchdown passes against the Denver Broncos. Joe Flacco ended the first half with a touchdown pass, and the 4th quarter with a touchdown pass. Each pass tied the score with seconds on the clock.
Like Brady, Flacco was 22-36 passing in last years AFC Championship. He also had two touchdowns and one interception. A third touchdown would have put the Ravens into the Super Bowl. Hopefully for Flacco, a third conference championship game is the charm.
Brady and the Patriots have the home field advantage.
Matt Ryan vs Colin Kaepernick
Matt Ryan won his first playoff game in thrilling fashion on Sunday. After blowing a 20 point lead in the fourth quarter, Ryan completed two clutch passes to get the Falcons into field goal range. For the game Ryan was 24-35 and threw for 250 yards. He also added two touchdowns, and two interceptions.
Colin Kaepernick had a dominating performance in his first ever playoff game. Kaepernick threw for 261 yards and two touchdowns. He also contributed to the San Francisco ground game as well. Colin Kaepernick rushed for 181 yards and two more touchdowns.
Ryan has started 77 regular season games in his career, while Kaepernick has started seven. Still, they both have the same amount of wins in postseason play.
Kaepernick’s athletic ability and dynamic grace give him the slight edge during Sunday’s matchup. In the beginning of the year, nobody thought Colin Kaepernick would be leading the 49ers into the championship game, but there was a cautious optimism about Matt Ryan’s playoff hopes.
