NFL player arrested for carrying a gun through New York airport

Da'Quan Bowers, defensive end for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was reportedly arrested on Monday and charged with two counts of criminal possession of a weapon on the second degree.

According to Meris Campbell, a spokeswoman for the Queens District Attorney's Office, a loaded .40-caliber gun was found in Bowers bag at LaGuardia Airport in New York.

The charges reportedly carry a minimum sentence of three and one-half years in prison. Bowers much like former NFL player Plaxico Burress (given same charge in 2008) will probably have the opportunity to accept a plea deal for a lesser charge.

Sources also say that Bower admitted to having the gun in his bag before going through security at the airport.

Both the NFL and the Buccaneers have released statements claiming that they are reviewing the incident and looking over league policies.
