A person was tried for a murder he might have been involved with and retired over a decade later as one of the most beloved players in the NFL. Help fund a dog fighting ring, serve time in jail, and then work to raise awareness of animal rights, and a player remains the NFL most disliked player.
It almost seems backwards.
Ray Lewis was arrested and charged with murder after the Baltimore Ravens won their first Super Bowl almost a decade ago. Lewis escaped all charges, but there are still fans out there who believe that he had something to do with the tragedy at the night club that night. Lewis has always denied the allegations.
Lewis went on to play in the NFL for another decade, and when he retired after the Ravens’ Super Bowl win last season, he received glorious ovations and honors. He will end up in the NFL Hall of Fame very soon.
Michael Vick was found guilty of funding a dog fighting ring. Many pit bulls bred for battle were tortured and died under his watch. He admitted to his wrongdoing. He served his time in prison. He has been clean and honest since his release. He has done all the right things in his rehabilitation. Yet, 53-percent of the people who voted consider his the NFL most disliked player.
Manti Te’o was second place because of his controversy in college with his fake deceased girlfriend. Ndamukong Suh was third, based on his reputation as the dirtiest player in the NFL. Ben Roethlisberger was fourth based partially off the alleged sexual assault charges from a couple of years back. Mark Sanchez was fifth because he just isn’t a good quarterback.
As for Michael Vick being the NFL most disliked player, it is like the old saying. A horror movie can kill all the people it wants to, but as soon as a dog is killed, the movie is vile.
