Off-field issues continue to be a problem for NFL players. As the NBC Sports reports on September 20, San Francisco 49ers outside linebacker Aldon Smith was arrested Friday morning on suspicion of DUI which adds to a long list of off-field issues Smith has been associated with.
According to San Jose Police, a report identified Smith as the driver of a car involved in a single-car wreck. Although no one was injured, the arrest is the second time the 49ers stand out pass rusher has faced and is becoming a big issue with players and personnel throughout the league.
This is the fifth DUI-related incident by the 49ers in the last three years. Smith’s arrest sparked the following statement from the 49ers organization:
“The 49ers organization is aware of the matter involving Aldon Smith. As we continue to gather information regarding the situation, we will have no further comment.”
Back in 2012, Smith has his DUI arrest reduced because he agreed to enroll in a DUI school. His current arrest may lead to some punishment from the NFL because it would violate the NFL’s personal conduct policy.
There is no word on wether Smith will be available to play in the 49ers game against the Indianapolis Colts this Sunday.
