The first day of the new NFL free agency season was a good one, and Tuesday, March 13, 2013, brought about some great deals, releases, and trades. It was not a frantic day or a big frenzy as we've seen in the past, but there were a lot of big time things that went down, and below is a recap of many of them.
~ Packers sign RB Steven Jackson: Early into the morning hours of Wednesday, March 13, 2013, the Green Bay Packers signed former St. Louis Rams running back Steven Jackson. The former Ram had contemplated retirement at one point, but it appears he still has juice left.
UPDATE: This is not yet a done deal, and is not confirmed. The Packers have "reached out" to Jackson, and sources say that a deal is close, but that can change in a moment's notice.
~ Eagles release Asomugha: Veteran cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha was released by the Philadelphia Eagles on Tuesday. The team and Asomugah tried for days to restructure his contract, but no deal could be made. He was scheduled to make $15 million in 2013 with $4 million being guaranteed.

~ Alex Smith traded to Chiefs: The trade between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers for Alex Smith has been known for some time, but couldn't be finalized until Tuesday. That trade has now been complete as Smith is a Chief, and the 49ers receive two currently undisclosed draft picks.
~ Dolphins sign WR Mike Wallace: The Pittsburgh Steelers couldn't hold onto Wallace as he signed with the Miami Dolphins. Wallace's deal is five years for $60 million.
~ Titans sign TE Delanie Walker: The San Francisco 49ers lost tight end Delanie Walker as he chose to sign with the Tennessee Titans. Walker's deal is for four years, but financial terms have not yet been disclosed.
~ Chiefs sign QB Chase Daniel: Drew Brees' back-up for the last three years in New Orleans is gone as Daniel signed a three-year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs.
