NFL finds a primetime spot on the CBS 2014 fall lineup

The NFL is heading to primetime according to the CBS Upfronts press conference on Wednesday, May 14. In addition to the gridiron game of the week, the network has added five new shows to their 2014 fall lineup, a relatively light load after so many shows this year sputtered out of the gates.

The big addition however, is the National Football League, which CBS will add to its Thursday night lineup with eight primetime games. Beginning on October 30, "The Big Bang Theory" will move back to Thursdays and the schedule will look a little more like it did this past year.

CBS has always long been known for giving their shows plenty of time to find an audience, so it's not a real surprise the network is light on new programming. "Scorpion" will debut on Monday nights and "NCIS: New Orleans"

It's a bit of a surprise that CBS chose not to order episodes of "How I Met Your Dad", the "HIMYM" spin-off set to star Greta Gerwig. But considering the backlash over the "How I Met Your Mother" finale, it may have been a lost cause. The show is expected to be shopped around to other networks.

Among those not being brought back by CBS are "Hostages", "The Crazy Ones", and "Intelligence". One show that is coming back despite being long considered a goner is "The Mentalist", which will be getting a 13 episode run and will return around midseason along with "Mike and Molly".
