NFL Draft 101: Who are the top ten CB prospects for the 2010 NFL draft?

It seems to be a pretty safe thing to say that every NFL team could use a shutdown corner. Where the need stacks up with the other needs is the only real argument. Right now around five NFL teams have a primary need at corner, and just about every team as a need for more corners on their roster.

That is probably a pretty good thing since this draft is fairly deep with CB prospects. With that being said here is a look at the top ten corner prospects for the 2010 NFL Draft:

1. Joe Haden, junior, Florida- He can run with any receiver, and has fluid hips and can change directions quickly. The only knock on him is he lacks ideal size, but makes up for that in good effort and attitude
2. Patrick Robinson, senior, Florida State-He is an elite athlete that has the speed and quickness that NFL teams covet. He also has the strength to battle with receivers. He can also blanket cover the best of receivers.
3. Kyle Wilson, senior, Boise State- Kyle stole the show the week of Senior Bowl practice. He is a natural playmaker, who has good vision. The only real concern is his size, at 5-10, 190 pounds the bigger NFL receivers may rough him up a bit
4. Syd’Quan Thompson, senior, Cal- a rare four year starter with the quickness and instincts to play better than his tangibles suggest. He is always around the ball, and has a quick closing burst towards receivers
5. Devin McCourty, senior, Rutgers- He is going to go higher than some expect because while he is an excellent corner, he can be a force on special teams. He averages 25.1 yards per kick return, and has blocked seven kicks in his college career
6. Dominique Franks, junior, Oklahoma- He is confident and has all the tools for teams to consider him in the late first round. With his special teams skills he will end up being a bargain for someone in the middle second round.
7. Perrish Cox, senior, Oklahoma State- In recent draft history he appears to be the most aggressive and physical corners to enter the draft. He is smart, has good instincts, and punishes opposing receivers
8. Jerome Murphy, senior, South Florida- The best stat about him is opposing offenses in 2009 spent a lot of time not throwing to his side of the field. On top of that he is bigger that most of the other corners in this draft
9. Brandon Ghee, senior Wake Forest- pick a worn-out tired cliché regarding NFL corners and apply it to Ghee. He has the skills that make NFL coaching staffs stand up and take notice
10. Javier Arenas, senior, Alabama- must through he was just a top notch punt returner, but over the past two college seasons he has proven that he is excellent corner. He can cover, he can rush the passer on corner blitz’s, and makes big plays at critical moments
