The last pick in the first round, may be the hardest to predict. A lot of what the Saints will do will be predicated on what happens in the 31 picks before they get a shot to select anyone.
It seems the strongest case can be made for OLB Sean Weatehrspoon. It is the Saints biggest need, and a player that could be a leader and could help bring some spark to the Saints defense. It is very hard to argue against them taking Sean with this pick.
However, I think the biggest weakness on this team is run defense. Sure the offense was so good in 2009 that this weakness rarely got exposed, but the Saints are deficient in stopping the run and I would like to see them add some bulk to the middle of their Defensive Line. This team had the 21st worst run defense and that is where I would add a player.
Depending on how the draft shakes out it seems that Brian Price of UCLA would be the most logical choice if they decide that the run defense need to be upgraded. If I ran the Saints that is what I would do, and it seems there is at least a chance they will do the same.
I also think this team will take a long look at Carlos Dunlap here. Pairing him with Will Smith would be a great move. Well maybe not great, but very good. This move seems a bit of a reach, and to outside the box for the Saints.
Those are the players I can make an effective argument for, but all that is subject to change as it seems there will be a lot of trades, and the firs day of the draft may be very crazy.
