Just go right ahead and put drafting Tim Tebow with the 10th overall pick right out of your head. It seems pretty clear that Tebow will end up with the Jaguars, but that is not going to happen till at least the third round.
It seems pretty clear that the Jaguars are committed to fixing the problems on their defensive line. They must fix a pass rush that only got 14 sacks in 2009. Signing Aaron Kampman was a big step in that direction, but since he is 31 adding a younger prospect for him to mentor seems like a solid plan.
Let us not forget that the Jaguars like to add pieces to their roster in pairs. In last year’s draft they added OT’s Eugene Monroe and Ebon Britton, two years ago they added potential draft bust DE’s Derrick Harvey and Quentin Groves. This year it seems very likely they will add a DE, and with the 10th pick overall they should have their pick of them.
The highest rated DE in this draft is Derrick Morgan, with Carlos Dunlap and Brandon Graham very close behind. We also must not count out Jason Pierre-Paul, who went to school in the State of Florida. Beyond playmakers the Jaguars have to find a way to sell more tickets.
While DE is the number one priority, depending how the draft shakes out the Jaguars might find themselves at pick #10 with a player they simply cannot pass up. There is a chance that Eric Berry could fall to them there, and the Jaguars could use a safety. The bet there would be they pick up a DE in the second round of the draft.
The Jaguars other primary need is an offensive guard, and they could take Mike Iupati with the 10th pick, but that does not seem likely. It seems that they will address this need later in the draft.
