Before the Denver Broncos get to the NFL Draft they are going to have to answer the Brandon Marshall question. Can the team live with him still on the roster, or does he need to be traded away? That question alone will determine what the Broncos should do with the 11th overall pick.
First let us presume that the Broncos and Marshall work things out, and he stays on as their number one receiver. Here they Broncos need to address the terrible run defense, and take a strong ILB like Rolando McClain or a huge DT like Dan Williams.
We can make a solid case for Williams here. The Broncos need a 3-4 NT to solidify their defensive scheme. Dan played the 3-4 in college, and could be the guy here. However this might be a bit of a reach. Some have him ranked this high, and some do not. We can leave that to the scouts to hash out.
The safe route would be to take McClain here. He has a high football IQ, is a big hitter, especially in the pass defense, hard to block, and spent his entire career in College playing in a 3-4 defense. He would be a natural fit in the Broncos defense.
Now let us presume that the Broncos cannot work things out with Marshall and are now looking for a new number one option at wide out. At 11 they should have most of the top receivers still on the board. The Seattle Seahawks or the Cleveland Browns, may take a WR before this pick, but for the most part the Broncos will have the pick of the WR litter.
Many mock drafts have the Broncos taking Dez Bryant. However, if he is gone the Broncos could end up with Golden Tate of Notre Dame. The Broncos should not feel pressure to take a WR here though.
There are enough WR prospects in this draft where the Broncos could wait till the second to select a new WR. With the 13th pick in the second round, several high quality receivers will be left there.
